When children are involved in a contested divorce, legal separation, or allocation of parental
responsibilities case, child and family investigators (CFIs) help make recommendations to the court
based on their independent and unbiased investigation into the case. CFIs make recommendations
on parenting time, decision-making authority, relocation, and other related legal issues as requested
by the parties or Court. CFIs will observe and evaluate a family situation to offer the court their
unbiased recommendations regarding the best interest of any children involved in a divorce,
separation, or allocation of parental responsibilities case.
